Catch up on our latest SFT Student Achievements

Apart from a few bumpy and gusty days, the weather has allowed us to witness numerous student achievements from first solo and beyond. Congratulations to all of those who achieved their aviation goals!

Benji - First Solo

SFT Student Benji landing VH-IJD after his first solo flight at Bankstown airport

Congratulations to Benji who achieved his First Solo! At only 15-years-old, Benji achieved his solo at the youngest possible age, a testament to his hard work and dedication to flight training. Although they didn’t have perfectly blue skies, the high overcast clouds made for calm conditions in the circuit for Benji and Instructor Aaron. We are excited to see Benji now progress through to RPL. Watch this space for when the young man turns sixteen and can obtain his first licence!

Brian - First Solo

Congratulations to Brian Smith who has achieved his first solo! Brian headed into the circuit with Instructor Aaron before achieving his first big aviation milestone - the first solo. Brian has since completed subsequent solos and is continuing his training towards his RPL, and we look forward to furthering his aviation skills and expertise. Well done, Brian!

Jeroen - Recreational Pilot Licence

Huge congratulations go to Jeroen Buwalda who passed his RPL flight test earlier this month. Jeroen and Testing Officer Steve had beautifully calm, CAVOK conditions for the flight. The RPL flight test consists of a one-hour oral questioning ground component, as well as a 1.5-hour flight to the circuit and local training area. Jeroen displayed key aspects of accuracy, safety, and situational awareness throughout the flight, and is now eligible to take to the skies by himself or with passengers within 25nm of his departure aerodrome..

Darby - Private Pilot Licence

SFT Student Darby next to Cirrus VH-IPP

Congratulations to Darby Thompson who achieved his PPL last month! After a string of bad luck between poor weather, sickness, maintenance, and personal circumstances, Darby’s test was unfortunately postponed multiple times. However, the wait for a perfect day was well worth it, and Darby demonstrated good technique, judgement, and situational awareness throughout the flight with Testing Officer Steve. Now that Darby has his PPL, he is allowed to fly solo or with passengers anywhere in Australia!

Kate - Instructor Rating

Congratulations to Kate who recently achieved her Flight Instructor Rating! Kate is now a fully qualified Grade 3 Instructor, eligible to start teaching students how to fly. Kate has been working towards her Instructor Rating over the past few months, practicing both theory briefings and flights with Instructor Tim who simulates being a student. We wish Kate all the best in her future Instructing endeavours and hope to see her out training students soon.

Harry - First Solo

SFT Student Harry with his thumbs up next to VH-JDC after his First Solo flight

Congratulations Harry Evans on completing his first solo flight! On a beautiful day for a first solo, Harry and Instructor Pete headed into the circuit at Bankstown where Harry demonstrated sound circuit technique and situational awareness, so he dropped Pete off in the run-up bay and returned to the skies for a circuit by himself! We look forward to seeing Harry progress through the rest of his training towards his RPL.

James - First Solo

SFT Student James in and next VH-KKB after completing his First Solo flight

Well done to James who achieved his First Solo recently! James has only recently finished high school and has a passion for aviation, wishing to pursue it as a career - either commercially or through the military. It’s been a pleasure teaching James and hearing all of his stories about heading to Oshkosh, and his future aspirations within aviation. James and Instructor Aaron headed up in the circuit on a beautiful day before James was able to go for one circuit by himself! Congratulations James, and good luck for the rest of your training

Andrew - Recreational Pilot Licence

SFT Student Andrew next to Piper Warrior VH-JDC after passing his RPL flight test

Congratulations to Andrew Thompson who achieved his RPL last month! Andrew has been consistently working towards his RPL with Instructor Wes, and although seeing delays to his flight test due to many reasons, flew well on the day and is now eligible to fly by himself and take passengers within 25nm of his departure aerodrome. We wish Andrew all the best as he continues into his PPL training.
