SFT Events: Hunter Valley Airshow Adventure!

F35 in flight

On Sunday, 9th February, a group of twelve SFT Friends, Students and Instructors embarked on a journey to the Hunter Valley Airshow in Cessnock. With four aircraft (JDC, NFR, KKB, and PIE) they departed Bankstown at 8am to ensure arrival well before airspace closure at 10am.

En route, a layer of overcast cloud at Cessnock required a diversion towards the coast to allow a safe descent before heading to the airport. Despite the detour, everyone arrived safely and secured the aircraft in time for the show!

The event was spectacular, beginning with Paul Bennet's Wolf Pitts Pro and featuring some other remarkable displays throughout the day. Highlights included handling demonstrations from the Spitfire and F-35, formation aerobatics, and an aircraft landing on a truck! Beyond the aerial thrills, there was plenty to explore - market stalls, food vendors and flight simulators.

By the afternoon, the clouds had lifted, and the sun came out, leaving some members of the group a little sun kissed. The show was closed out by the F-35’s impressive demonstration. It was then back to the aircraft for the journey home. Touching down back at Bankstown at about 5:30pm, a few of the group wrapped up the adventure with a well-deserved meal.

It was a fantastic experience for all, filled with great flying, amazing displays, and plenty of aviation fun.
